For many years the name Africa was synonymous with a continent torn by years of wars, stricken by poverty, and ravaged by diseases. Unfortunately, this view is still held by many. It has been further amplified with the emergence of the world’s deadliest and most merciless disease known to men-HIV/AIDS. This disease alone has been responsible for killing 3,000 people on average a day in Africa.
Coupled with HIV/AIDS, is the current world food crisis which is further deteriorating the living conditions of millions of Africans. According to the United Nation’s report on the world hunger, about 18,000 children die every day because of hunger and malnutrition, and 850 million people go to bed every night with empty stomachs. This, together with the current world food crisis, and you have a recipe for disaster! It is a roaring disaster of unimaginable and un-proportional dimension. Yet, we can prevent this looming man-made disaster by empowering the doctors and nurses in the hospitals who are being underpaid and risking their own lives
at times to save others.
It means providing these doctors and nurses with the basic medical equipment and supplies to work more effectively in saving peoples’ lives.
It is precisely for that reason that we are coming to you to solicit help. Your generous donation of $100, $200, or more will buy basic equipment and supplies that doctors who are already overworked, underpaid will need to care for their sick and desperate patients. Our goal is to be able to send at least one single container load of medical equipment and supplies per month to some of the poorest countries in Africa. It is hard to imagine that some of these hospitals are so ill-equipped that some of their in-patients spend days sleeping on the floor of the hospitals after surgery while waiting for available beds. The situation is desperate and time is of the essence!
